Alicia tells BuzzFeed Life that growing up, people would call her names, like ape and gorilla, and the bullying even turned physical as kids would pull her hair and push her.

Now, though, the 23-year-old aspiring marketing director has come into her own and says, "I really just want to let everyone know that being dark skinned is not a disease, and I will not apologize for those who feel uncomfortable."
